Announcements
$8.65 Million Investment to Develop ADF Protective Equipment

The Defence Innovation Hub has awarded its largest contract to date to Australia’s national science agency, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) to develop advanced respiratory protective equipment for the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

Deputy Prime Minister, Richard Marles, welcomed the $8.65 million investment with CSIRO, which is partnering with Brisbane-based small business EPE Trusted to Protect to deliver this cutting-edge innovation.
Intelligence, Surveillance and    Reconnaissance (ISR) Integration Capability Achieves Key Milestone

The Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Pat Conroy MP, is pleased to announce Defence personnel will now have access to a new computer interface that allows for better informed and faster decision-making.

The interface allows analysts to search for and assimilate intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) data across multiple databases, delivering more complete information in a reduced timeframe.

Minister Conroy said the ISR integration capability had achieved final operational capability and was being introduced into service.
New Commonwealth Procurement Rules – effective 1 July 2022

The Government announced steps to boost the amount of small and medium businesses that can benefit from government spending contracts with revisions to the Commonwealth Procurement Rules (CPRs).

Minister for Finance, Senator the Hon. Katy Gallagher and Minister for Small Business, the Hon. Julie Collins, announced the revised CPRs.

Each year the Australian Government spends approximately $70 billion a year on contracts.

These changes to the CPRs will open the door to more opportunities for small and medium sized businesses to participate in applying for Commonwealth contracts.

The new rules double the previous commitment of non-corporate Commonwealth entities sourcing at least 10 per cent of their procurement by value to 20 per cent.

Federal government buyers will also now be required to approach multiple suppliers on a standing offer arrangement to encourage genuine competition in the panel arrangements.

The “climate change impact” of goods and services the government procures must also now be considered. Previous Commonwealth Procurement Rules (CPR) required agencies to consider the environmental sustainability but not necessarily climate change impacts.

The updated Commonwealth Procurement Rules are now online.

Finalists Announced for Victorian 2022 Manufacturing Hall of Fame

ADA-Vic would like to congratulate the finalists for the 2022 Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame Awards including four of our members members: -

      • Australian Defence Apparel (East Bendigo)
      • Coolon (Hallam)
      • Integra Systems (Broadmeadows)
      • RUAG Australia (Bayswater, Airport West)

In its 20th anniversary year, the awards recognise the achievements of exceptional manufacturers across the state and acknowledge the key role manufacturing plays in Victoria.

The theme this year is ‘Made in Victoria’ – highlighting the importance of local manufacturing and the breadth of products, technology and equipment produced in the state.
There are three new categories this year including, ‘Leader in low carbon economy’, ‘Outstanding responsiveness to COVID‑19’ and ‘Leader in diversity and inclusion’.

These categories reflect the industry’s agility and talent shown over the past two years throughout the pandemic – whether it’s adapting to make critical medical supplies or onshoring production to boost local supply chains.

Established in 2001, the Hall of Fame Awards recognise individuals and companies that embrace new technologies, are globally competitive and excel in business innovation – showcasing Victoria’s leading manufacturing capabilities.

Manufacturing in Victoria supports more than 260,000 jobs and contributes around $30 billion to the local economy each year.

Winners will be announced at the Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame Awards Gala Dinner on Tuesday 26 July at the Palladium at Crown.

For more information, visit the 2022 Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame Awards page.
