ADA-Vic offers its sincere condolences to the family of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth ll on her passing on the 8th of September 2022. We thank her for her dedicated service to Australia.

CSIRO - Innovate to Grow: Defence Victoria/Tasmania
Applications are open for a free 10‑week program for small to medium enterprises (SMEs) to investigate new research and development (R&D) opportunities relevant to the defence industry.

This is a free 10-week virtual, self-paced program for Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Victoria and Tasmania to investigate new R&D opportunities related to defence solutions.

This program is open to businesses working in one of the sub-sectors listed in the attached flyer. If you are not sure if you fit into one of these sub-sectors, please reach out to our program coordinator.

The course provides tools and information to help you better understand what's involved with R&D and key things you need to consider at each step of the process. You'll be able to apply this knowledge to advance your innovation journey.

Annual Networking & Golf Day
Friday, 9th December at the Medway Golf Club

This event will consist of a morning session of networking and industry briefings, set amongst an amazing backdrop with morning tea and lunch. For the golfers, and also the non-golfers amongst us, there will be an Ambrose golf competition in the afternoon and then a dinner and further networking in the evening.

This will be an enjoyable and informative day with the opportunity to meet others in Defence.

    From Defence:    
    • DSTG is looking to make direct contact with leadership in Humanities and Social Science focused faculties to gauge interest in working with them to better understand extant capabilities in analysing Socio-Technical Futures. See more here.
    • Defence is partnering with the maritime industry and academia to establish a world-leading research facility for Biofilm Research and Innovation. Research support will include experts from several international and domestic universities including Swinburne University of Technology. See more here.
    • Defence announced a new partnership between the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, Department of Defence and the Phoenix Australia Centre for Posttraumatic Mental Health has led to world-first research and the development of an innovative new treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).     • The Victorian government has announced $10 million in grants for SMEs to aid them in joining the supply chain for the $1 billion LAND 8116 Self Propelled Howitzer program in Victoria. See more here.
    • Titomic Limited has partnered with Repkon to expand the market footprint in the Middle East. Repkon will sell Titomic’s manufacturing systems, consumables, and service contracts across the defence and aerospace sector in Turkey, the UAE and Saudi Arabia. See more here.
    • Lockheed Martin Australia’s Research and Development team, STELaRLab, in collaboration with the RAAF and DSTG, successfully tested Integrated Air and Missile Defence decision support capabilities using a live, virtual, constructive training system. See more here.  
    • Aerospace composites manufacturer Quickstep agreed final terms for a multi-year $151 million order from Northrop Grumman to supply centre fuselage components for the F-35 joint strike fighter aircraft. See more here.  
    • RUAG Australia, Honeywell International sign an agreement for F-35 Joint Strike Fighter wheels and brakes. See more here.  
    • Advanced Composite Structures Australia is investing in the development and manufacture of ultra-high temperature composites for hypersonic and space structures to enable sustained travel periods at hypersonic speeds by flight vehicles. See more here.
    • EOS subsidiary, SpaceLink, has signed a Cooperative R&D Agreement with the US Army Space and Missile Defense Command Technical Center (USASMDC-TC) to explore alternative space communications pathways. See more here.
    • Nova Systems was awarded a Defence Innovation Hub contract to develop two locally designed and manufactured ground expendable target concepts for the Australian Defence Force. See more here.
    • Taya Permezel, from Coolon LED Lighting, provides an overview of the company’s innovative approach to lighting projects, focus on building long-term supply chain relationships, and the role of the defence industry in the company’s future. See more here.
    • Boeing has found several Australian companies to manufacture parts for its JP 9102 defence satellite communications program. See more here.
    • Applications are open for Round 2 of the Vic Nodes Demonstrator Grants, with node: industry co-funding of up to $300,000 available for projects that will result in space-related research that will drive innovation for the Victorian industry. See more here.

      Industry Opportunities & Work Packages
      In partnership with the Victorian State Government, Lockheed Martin Australia manages a secure facility designed to enable Victoria’s innovation community to better engage with classified Defence and National Security programs. The first facility of its type in Australia, the Victorian Common User Facility is a key initiative in creating new business opportunities for Victoria’s innovation sector.

      Australian Defence Export Office Pitch Training Program

      The ADEO, in partnership with Marketing Entourage, have created a five week online pitch training program specifically for businesses looking to export defence and dual use goods and services. This training is fully subsidised for Australian Defence Industry businesses.

      The program is specifically designed to improve the chances of success for Australian defence industry companies when engaging with opportunities to pitch their capabilities to foreign military and military suppliers. The training is delivered through a series of webinars, online modules and one-to-one pitch practice sessions.

      Australian Defence Industry businesses are encouraged to apply by registering their interest at the link below. Multiple people from the same business can be included as a single application. Limited spaces are available on each cohort and the ADEO will prioritise businesses who have recently participated in an industry delegation with TDA.

      The Andy Thomas Space Foundation is looking forward to welcoming a global audience to the 14th Australian Space Forum, which will be held on Tuesday, 25 October 2022 at the Adelaide Convention Centre in South Australia.

       
      The Defence White Paper 2016 established “Enhanced Human Performance” as a key S&T theme for the future of Defence capability. Defence cannot meet this need on its own and is committed to nurturing the innovation community that has grown up around these important research priorities.

      Human Performance Week provides an opportunity for Defence, academia, industry, and other agencies to come together to discuss human sciences research and its application.
             In 2022, Human Performance Week brings together two events:

      • The Defence Human Sciences Symposium (DHSS), the principal Australian forum for those interested in the application of human sciences research to enhance Defence capability, an

      • The Human Performance Research Network Symposium (HPRnet). HPRnet is an established network of universities that draws together multidisciplinary teams from around the country who are co-invested in the delivery of significant outcomes for Defence. The symposium brings together existing network members and those with an interest in human performance to hear about the latest developments in human performance research for the military.
