  • Defence has engaged PWC to complete an analysis of Defence’s contribution to the national economy.
  • Team Defence Australia will have no physical presence at overseas trade event for the remained of this calendar year.  It is planning to attend IDEX (Abu Dhabi 21 – 25 February 2021) and IMDEX (Singapore 18 – 20 May 2021).

  • The Victorian Government has announced the third Round of the Business Support Fund.

  • The Commonwealth Government has announced a Business Events Grants Program to support businesses who have been financially impacted the cancellation or delay of events in 2021 due to COVID. Details are scant, but some information is available here.
  • SYPAQ partners with Keystone Cyber Security under the banner of SYPAQ’s Cyber Services Practice.
  • Systematiq’s Brydon Johnson and Textron’s Jack Kormas feature in this article on SMEs accessing defence business.

Cyber Security
  • Defence companies continue to be targeted by a sophisticated state-based actor
  • All defence companies should register as a partner with the Australian Cyber Security Centre
  • All defence companies should commit to the Australian Signals Directorate’s Essential Eight cyber security controls

Airbus Defence and Space Industry Forum
Thursday 5th November 2020, 6-7pm
The Victorian Government is pleased to present the second Airbus Defence and Space Industry Forum. Following from the first forum in March this year, this briefing will provide further updates including more information and detail around JP9102 - Australian Defence Satcom System (ASDSS).  The Commonwealth’s Request for Tender (RFT) is due to be released later this year, with responses due in April 2021.

Airbus is seeking to identify suitable Australian partnerships for its Australian projects as well as for its wider Airbus global supply chain. You will be introduced to key Airbus representatives and given a high-level overview of the project and industrial capability areas in which Airbus is seeking expressions of interest. These include manufacturing, electronics/electrical engineering, software development, payload development, infrastructure and services. The event will consist of half an hour of presentations plus Q&A.

Current projects of interest include:
  • JP9102 - Australian Defence Satcom System;
  • Def 799 - Enhanced Satellite ISR Capability;
  • FMSC - Future Maritime Surveillance Capability;
  • Zephyr - High Altitude Pseudo Satellite;
  • EMAC - Enhanced Maritime Awareness Capability NZ.

International Trade Shows
"Naval Online 2020"
20th - 23rd October 2020
As travel restrictions are going to limit the presence of foreign delegations during the 2020 edition of Euronaval, SOGENA, the organiser of this trade show, proposes an online Business-2-Business (B2B) meeting event called Naval Online for these companies unable to attend in person.

Naval Online will take place from Tuesday 20th to Friday 23rd October 2020.

The Team Defence Australia is setting up a virtual delegation for the Naval Online event. Registration is organised as usual through the ICN gateway here

The online B2B meeting experience will comprise of the following features facilitated by SOGENA:

  1. Virtual exhibit stands provided through the Vimeet platform, with the ability to create a company profile, upload documents and access stand visitor analytics and data;
  2. Companies will have the ability to request the online business meetings they were hoping to hold at Euro Naval 2020, even with companies that will be present on the ground;
  3. Access to other virtual exhibitors through the online catalogue to facilitate your contacts and develop your business network with potential customers, suppliers and commercial and technological partners; and
  4. Access to Naval Online web conferences.
