Announcements
Australian Businesses Awarded $3m in Government Contracts

It was announced today, by the Minister for Defence Industry, that ten Australian businesses seeking to solve some of Defence’s biggest capability challenges have been awarded contracts totalling close to $3 million.

The companies will respond to a range of identified Defence capability challenges, including cyber security, enhanced human performance, medical countermeasures, trusted autonomous systems, and integrated intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.

The funding is part of Defence’s $36 million Industry Competitive Evaluation Research Agreement (ICERA) – unveiled in August 2020 – which forms part of the Next Generation Technologies (NGTF) initiative.
Emerging Aviation Technology Partnerships (EATP) Program Forecast Grant Opportunity

A Forecast Grant Opportunity has been published on GrantConnect to provide information on the program ahead of its anticipated release, along with the publication of detailed grant guidelines, in November 2021 – see  GrantConnect website for further details. You can also find further information on the Australian Government's Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications website.

The EATP program will call for proposals utilising emerging aviation technology to improve services in regional and remote communities, across one or more of five key focus areas:

  • Digital Farming;
  • Boosting Regional Supply Chains;
  • Connecting Regional Communities;
  • Improving health outcomes for remote Indigenous Communities; and
  • Growing manufacturing in Emerging Aviation Technology.

Partnerships
The EATP program is centred on a partnerships approach and potential proponents are encouraged to engage with local communities, local or state/territory government agencies, and other parties during the development and implementation of projects. The Department will also play a key role as a project partner, helping to secure successful outcomes for the program.

Feedback
Feedback is welcome on the Forecast Grant Opportunity. Any feedback should be provided to EATP@infrastructure.gov.au by 11 October 2021.

    The Victorian Common User Facility is an initiative to facilitate enhanced engagement by Victorian businesses and the innovation community with Defence and National Security programs.  This unique facility is the first of its type in Australia.

    Located in the Melbourne CBD, the facility allows appropriately cleared personnel to access Defence secure networks and provides secure offices and work areas for undertaking limited-duration activities such as meetings, bid preparation, and small-scale experiments. The facility also contains a secure Video Teleconference (VTC) room.

    The facility has reached Initial Operating Capability, and is now available for use by Victorian businesses.
