Travel & Working During Lockdown If you have any questions concerning your eligibility to continue with on-site operations under Phase 4 restrictions in Victoria, an Industry Coordination Centre has been set up within the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions. There is a lot of useful information about and a template for the "Permitted Workers Scheme" here. The Industry Coordination Centre has been setup to support industry and consider ‘grey area’ cases to determine if you can safely operate under Stage 4 restrictions. There are numerous current opportunities and more upcoming opportunities for Australian Industry to be a part of the Maritime Asset new build, upgrade and sustainment programs.
Defence's 'Plan Galileo' (more info here) is rolling out and is calling for AIC. More information will be shared in due course about specific opportunities... stay tuned
The Naval Shipbuilding institute has a comprehensive plan to skill up an Australian workforce to be the "best in the business"
There are current opportunities with ASC and BAE Systems to build and sustain Naval vessels
ASC built the Royal Australian Navy’s fleet of 6 Collins Class Submarines and now provides design enhancement, maintenance and through-life support for the fleet.
From the Government & Defence
As the Commonwealth government continues to navigate through the economic turmoil resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, it has shifted gears to enhance the opportunities available to Australian business.
Businesses in the defence industry seeking to participate in the government’s $270 billion capability investment will benefit from updated Commonwealth procurement guidelines, here
Minister Price (Minister for Defence Industry) advised that there are some 15,000 Australian businesses and around 70,000 employees that benefit for the Commonwealth’s investment in Defence. Since March Defence has processed approximately 190,000 invoices, totalling $14 billion of which some $10 billion has been paid early.
CEDA webinar stated that Defence was negotiating a minimum of 60 percent local content to be included in the Future Submarine contract. Leurssen is expected to achieve 68 percent local content in the OPV contract
Australian Industry Capability:
Audit program is nearing completion. It will be a targeted program over time to confirm compliance with AIC obligations. Failure to meet AIC obligations will be detrimental to secure future defence contracts.
Contractual provisions will be strengthened with AIC being included in Statements of Work and Conditions of Contract.
The Skilling Australia’s Defence Industry (SADI) grants program will have a significant increase in funding, more here

Defence Innovation Hub update: $105 million has been allocated from the DIH to 150 businesses and 25 universities in the last year. 80 percent has gone to SMEs and 25 percent to new entrants to the defence industry sector. The DIH will be hosting webinars from 23 November 2020.
