$37.4 million Contract Between Defence and Lockheed Martin Australia to Manufacture Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) Missiles Signed
The Government will ensure Australia starts manufacturing Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) missiles from 2025, following the signing of a $37.4 million contract between Defence and Lockheed Martin Australia.
The contract will enable an initial batch of GMLRS missiles to be manufactured in Australia, which is an important first step towards establishing domestic missile manufacturing on a larger scale. It will facilitate the transfer of technical data from the United States, establish processes for engineering certification, and begin to build the technical skills of an Australian workforce.
The Australian Government will also acquire Precision Strike Missiles (PrSM). Both PrSM, which can engage targets out to 500km, and GMLRS can be fired from HIMARS launchers.
These activities are part of the $4.1 billion
investment, announced in response to the Defence Strategic Review, which will enable Defence to acquire more long-range strike systems and manufacture longer-range munitions in Australia.

$4 million Upgrade at Defence’s RAAF Base Amberley Announced
The Government is investing in critical infrastructure to support Australia’s air combat capability with a $4 million upgrade at Defence’s largest operational air base, RAAF Base Amberley near Ipswich in Queensland.
Ensuring the Australian Defence Force (ADF) has modern, fit-for-purpose facilities and infrastructure in place to support its critical capabilities is essential to keeping Australians safe.
RAAF Base Amberley is home to the Royal Australian Air Force’s F/A-18F Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler fleets. This $4 million investment will support these platforms by delivering an upgrade to Amberley’s external fuel tank workshop, communications support works, and electrical repairs and maintenance works.
These projects will support fuel quality testing for the Hornet and Growler fleets, as well as upgrade
electrical infrastructure and deliver base infrastructure in support of deployable ICT communications equipment.
