Navy week was held from the 23rd of February to the 1st of March. Its conclusion celebrates the Navy's 122nd Birthday.

The week recognises the work of our Navy people, and the critical role they play in safeguarding Australia’s economic wellbeing, on and under the sea. With events being held across Australia it is an opportunity for community to see what the Navy is all about.

Opportunities for SMEs in the defence industry will continue to grow and we are here to help and advocate for our members.

We would also like to hear from you if you have any news or stories about your business that may be of interest to other businesses and organisations.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Announcements
Government Signs Australian Industry Capability Deed for Apache Program with Boeing

The Minister for Defence Industry, The Hon Pat Conroy MP, has announced new opportunities for Australian defence industry companies to be involved in the production of advanced air capabilities.

The Australian Government has yesterday signed an Australian Industry Capability (AIC) Deed for the Apache Program with the Boeing Company (US), solidifying commitments for Australia’s defence industry in the production of Australia’s aircraft.

Defence is preparing to deliver a fleet of 29 AH-64E Apache aircraft between 2025 and 2028, working with industry and the US Army to provide the armed reconnaissance capability to our Australian Army for the first time, under an acquisition worth $4.2 billion.

The Deed will underpin Australian industry contribution to the production of the Apache fleet, creating new opportunities, expected to bring millions of dollars to local defence industry companies.
New National Office for Cyber Security

Last Monday  the Prime Minister led a Cyber Security Roundtable, focused on the whole-of-nation effort required to protect Australians and our economy, with the aim of making Australia the most cyber secure nation by 2030.

Leaders from the public service and intelligence agencies, and independent experts from business, industry and civil society, were invited to share their expertise and experience.

They discussed ideas including incentivising best practice cyber behaviours, growing Australia’s cyber security sector and raising national cyber awareness, to shape a new strategy. One that will give Australian businesses and families confidence, stability and security, in the face of rapidly evolving threats.

The  Government also announced it will establish a Coordinator for Cyber Security, supported by a National Office for Cyber Security within the Department of Home Affairs, to ensure a centrally coordinated approach to deliver Government’s cyber security responsibilities.

Input from today’s roundtable will inform the development of Government’s 2023-2030 Australian Cyber Security Strategy. That Strategy will be led by the Minister for Home Affairs and Cyber Security, Clare O’Neil, the first Cabinet Minister to hold the portfolio of Cyber Security.

The Cyber Security Strategy Expert Advisory Board, appointed by Minister O’Neil, has released a public discussion paper seeking feedback on the development of the 2023- 2030 Australian Cyber Security Strategy.

The Prime Minister and Minister O’Neil encourage all Australians to share their views in the discussion for a safer cyber world.
