Enabling Members to do Better Business in Defence

Happy New Year from ADA-Vic!

Hi Juanita,

We hope all our members have had a chance to relax and take a break over Christmas and the New Year.

This year will be a busy year for Defence Industry with the AIC Summit and MiLCIS in February, the Air and Space Power Conference in March, IndoPacific in May, the inaugural Australian defence Science, Technology and Research Summit (ADSTAR) in July and of course, Land Forces in October!

We have all learned to be more nimble and flexible over the last two years. Let’s hope that Covid does not delay or interrupt these important gatherings for businesses to interact and to network. We, at ADA-Vic, will keep you up to date with any developments.

We are here to help and advocate for our members. We would also like to hear from you if you have any news or stories about your business that may be of interest to other members.

We look forward to a successful 2022 for all of our members!

The Morrison Government has signed a $5.13 million contract with Deakin University to continue its development of a cutting-edge augmented and virtual naval firefighting system for the Australian Defence Force.

Researchers at Deakin, in partnership with technology companies Kellogg, Brown & Root and FLAIM, will seek to develop an immersive training system for naval firefighting, combining virtual reality and augmented reality with artificial intelligence.

Minister for Defence Industry Melissa Price said the investment could significantly improve the ADF’s naval firefighting training capability.

Government Approval Times to Approve Large Acquisition Projects Slashed!

The government announced late last year that the length of time it takes for Defence to approve large acquisition projects will be cut by up to a quarter under a range of contracting changes introduced by the Morrison Government to reduce red tape and save industry millions of dollars.

The major overhaul of Defence procurement follows the completion of the Australian Standard for Defence Contracting (ASDEFCON) and Defence Procurement Review.

Minister for Defence Industry Melissa Price, who ordered the Review, said it had identified significant opportunities to reduce red tape, saving industry time and money in supporting the delivery of capability to the Australian Defence Force.

Implementation of the recommendations of review will start in 2022.

The ASDEFCON and Defence Procurement Review 2021 findings and recommendations, as well as a fact sheet are available:
